| 内容記述 | This paper aims to examine Sensory Order (1952) as well as the other psychological writings of F.A. Hayek and clarify the role of these writings in his entire work. Recently, some scholars have turned their attention to Hayek’s Sensory Order (De Vecchi[2003], Caldwell[2004], Steel[2005]). However, what appears to be lacking is in the reference to Hayek’s evolutionary concept in his psychology and a focus on the background of his psychology. In this paper, we will discuss the following two subjects. First, we will address the concept of sensory order and consider its relationship with Hayek’s evolutionary concept. In Hayek’s later social philosophical writings, evolution is an important concept. Accordingly, we will find an evolutionary concept in his psychological writings. Second, we will examine Hayek’s career background. However, it appears that Hayek’s psychology was influenced by Ernst Mach in that Hayek rejects Mach’s positivism. Thus, an examination of Hayek’s evaluation of Mach clarifies Hayek’s methodological standpoint. In conclusion, we would like to stress that Hayek’s psychological writing is not independent but related to his social theory. Therefore, when considered from this perspective, Hayek’s psychological writings can be interpreted as a seedbed of his social theory. |
