Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby from the perspective of the “mother” in psychoanalysis. In undertaking such an endeavor, firstly, it focuses on the descriptions in the novel that evoke the “mother” and analyzes them based on psychoanalytic theory to reveal Gatsby’s desire for a “return to the womb”. Secondly, it considers Nick, the very person who evaluates Gatsby as “great”, and points out that Nick exhibits a critical or satirical attitude toward 1920s America (“the Roaring Twenties”), making him an anachronistic figure.
