| 内容記述 | This research note seeks to explore the mutually constitutive relationship between International Relations (IR) theories and realities of international relations, with particular reference to the interplay between the recent debate on the liberal international order and current U.S. foreign policy. The research note looks at how recent developments and events surrounding U.S. foreign policy have shaped the debate between realists and liberals over the liberal international order and examines how this debate has in turn influenced U.S responses to the war in Ukraine and given rise to the emerging disagreement as to whether the U.S. should continue to provide military, financial, and other types of assistance to Ukraine. The Biden administration has identified Russia’s invasion of Ukraine as a threat to the rules-based liberal international order and has offered military and other forms of aid to Ukraine in pursuit of a just peace. However, realists and realist-leaning politicians in the U.S. are becoming increasingly vocal in their criticism of the Biden administration’s policy toward the war in Ukraine, calling for an early negotiated settlement. How the Biden administration responds to this challenge will likely have a profound impact on how the debate over the liberal international order will unfold in the future. | |||||||
