| 内容記述 | Since the long term care insurance system introduced the quasi market in 2000， the market has grown rapidly and nonprofit and for-profit organizations have competed with each other extensively. However little has been studied about the factors which affect the market shares of nonprofit and for-profit organizations. This paper first reviews the roles of nonprofit organizations， which are different from for-profit ones， in the mixed economy. Then it exarnines the determinants of the market shares of several nonprofit and for-profit organizations in the long term care services， focusing on the impact of market size and growth， demand heterogeneity and philanthropic activities， using a prefectural panel data set. The results indicate， though not in all cases， that 1) the market shares of nonprofit αganizations are relatively largerin the areas with more unprofitable market conditions, 2) the market shares of citizen-driven nonprofit organizations are larger in the areas with more heterogeneous demand， related to educational level， compared to government-driven nonprofit organizations and 3) the market shares of both nonprofit organizations are larger in the areas with more active voluntary activities，though the effects are different between a general philanthropic activity and a voluntary activity assisting government functions. |
