It is a self-study book and has interlinear word-forword Japanese translation with numbers indicating the order for translating English words into Japanese words. This type of self-study book, widely used in Japan in those days, is the prototype for the translation method in Japan. The basic movement in English-Japanese translation, a combination of one rightward and one leftward movement, derives from translating forward first and then translating backward. A simple computer program for the data analysis software called \"R\" was written to analyze the order for translating English words into Japanese words in this type of translation.
