          <datacite:description descriptionType="Abstract">Previous studies have only pointed out two kinds of gender difference in Japanese. One of them is gender difference defined by researchers relating to vocabulary or grammar. The other is gender indicated consciously recognized by Japanese native speakers, that is, consciousness of usages by language users. There has not been much research on language phenomena involving unconscious beliefs of the speakers themselves. Therefore, in this study, I explore gender difference of which speakers themselves unaware aware. I call this language phenomenon “unconscious gender difference” and consider its usage. In order to capture the gender difference appearing in actual use, this survey focused on Chinese used by native Chinese speakers to describe the taste of food. Based on the results of this survey, I examined whether unconscious gender difference manifests itself in speakers’ words during food tasting.</datacite:description>
